Dignity through Work

Better Way Detroit empowers and restores dignity and hope to homeless men and women through service, employment, and spiritual growth.

At Better Way Detroit, we meet people where they are - at local shelters, transitional homes, and outreach centers - and invite them to join our day work program.

Participants earn wages while serving Detroit neighborhoods, from cleaning public spaces to assisting at local food banks. Over time, they build community, receive mentorship, and prepare for long-term employment through our network of partner organizations.

It’s not a hand out, it’s an opportunity.

Our Mission:  Work, Mentorship, and a Path Forward

Each person we meet has a story of resilience.

From Teshia, who found steady work after years of instability, to Nicholas, who rebuilt his confidence through vocational training, BetterWay Detroit is more than a program, it’s a pathway forward.

Stories of Work, Hope, & Renewal

Join the Movement

Three workers in blue shirts and yellow gloves working on a street repair project. Two of them are shoveling dirt or gravel, and the third is using a hand tool to smooth out the asphalt. Orange traffic barrels are positioned on the street to block the area, and a blue wheelbarrow is next to one worker. A truck and construction equipment are in the background.
